Course Design

Why hire a professional?

The success of a disc golf course depends heavily on its design. Before the invention of the modern golf disc and the "pole-hole", courses were often set up in a haphazard fashion with 4x4 wooden posts as the targets. As the game evolved and players' skills improved, the demand for quality course design also increased.

If you were to build a soccer field or a baseball diamond for professional use, you would hire someone who is an expert in design. The same should hold true even more so for disc golf, because there are so very few professional course designers existing today. You would want someone who knows the game inside and out, someone who regularly plays in competition, and someone who has visited and studied several courses.

Michael Wildner of Yeti Tech is a veteran player and course designer. He has traveled to play over 100 different disc golf courses and is a certified PDGA Official. He has been a tournament player since 1996. He knows the game and knows how to make the best use of whatever land is available for a course, while at the same time preserving the natural surroundings as much as possible. He also knows that safety is a top concern of parks managers, and he will design holes with this as a priority. He has worked successfully with many parks departments since 1997.
